Back in the sixties or seventies, Dutch Elm Disease went through the area and they had to cut down many large trees. They kept the stump and had a woodcarver come in and carve the figures. Antigonish and surrounding area (including Auld's Cove) has many chainsaw carvings.

That is the Photographer's sons Brandon and Kyle, in the photo.
