Reason for Building:

Built to recognize a pioneer and long time resident of the district, Dr. A.J. (Bert) Porter. The lily represents one of the many varieties developed at his Honeywood Nursery. Porter named and introduced more than 25 varieties and has received major international awards of recognitionand achievement in the field of lilies. Many of his fruit and lily varieties continue to be grown at Honeywood Nursery. It is one of the oldest businesses in the community.
