This is one of three geese statues in Wawa. The first one was erected in 1960 because the last link of the Trans Canada Highway linking Wawa to Sault Ste. Marie and Western Canada by-passed the downtown core of Wawa.
Wawa is Ojibway for "Wild Goose".
I am pretty sure that both geese pictured above are the same, in spite of their different locations. The first photo was taken in 2002 and the other photo was taken in 1998. Because monuments tend to move around, surprisingly, I am assuming that these are the same birds. By the way, that is the photographer's kids Jesse, Brandon and Kyle in the first picture.
