Cochrane is the starting point of the Polar Bear Express, a train that goes to Moosonee on the edge of James Bay. This train goes the farthest North in the province of Ontario hence the name. As a result, the polar bear was chosen as the Town of Cochrane's mascot.
Chimo means "Be Welcome" or "We are friendly" in Cree
The second photo features the photographer Steve Robinson's wife Leea, daughter Jesse and sons Brandon and Kyle. It was taken in 2002. The bear has been moved from it's normal spot while road construction was going.
