Designer: Carl Sabanski

When Built: July 14, 2001

Dimensions:
Gnomon height: 17.5' (5.3 m)
Gnomon length: 16' (4.9 m)

Construction Materials:
Hour lines are made from 225 feet of railroad track. The inner dial is made from 580 sq. ft. of pavers. The outer dial is made from 315 sq. ft. of granite stones. Gnomon is constructed of mild steel. Surronded by a 20 ton granite block retaining wall.

Location:

Reason for Building:

It was constructed as a millennium project for the Local Government District of Pinawa.

Additional Information:

The sundial consists of two dials on a single dial plate. "Local apparent time" is show by the outer dial. The inner dial shows "zonal solar time" (this is the local apparent time but corrected for longitude).

12 main icons are etched on granite illustrating the history of the Eastern Manitoba region.

The gnomon (my guess this is the vertical piece) was sandblasted prior to installation and allowed to oxidize.
