George was known as the grandfather of community monuments in Manitoba. He was responsible for the creation of at least six. His sculptures were created with a special recipe of fibreglass, resin and marble dust. Born in Pizzo Calabro, Calabria (Italy) in 1916. I found two accounts of when he died. One has his death in 1992 in British Columbia and the other has it being 1995 in California. He worked out of his home on Victoria Avenue in the Winnipeg suburb of Transcona. There he had a small shop, selling smaller sculptures. |
